Birthday invitation wording: examples for every age

Good birthday invitation wording makes people want to come before they've even read the address. Here are examples for every age, for a surprise party, and a checklist of what not to forget.

The essential details

• Whose birthday it is, and their age if you want to say it.
• The day, date and start time (and end time if needed).
• The venue and its full address.
• The theme or dress code, if there is one.
• The RSVP deadline.
• For a surprise: the arrival time, before the guest of honor arrives, and a reminder to keep it secret.

30th birthday

Thirty is worth celebrating! Léa invites you on Saturday, March 20, 2027, at 8 p.m. for a night to remember.

Goodbye, twenties. Come help me turn the page on March 20, 2027.

30 years, 30 candles, and hopefully at least 30 friends. See you on March 20, 2027.

40th birthday

60th, 70th and beyond

Sixty years of laughter, travel and wonderful people. Come raise a glass with Mary on July 4, 2027.

For guests without a smartphone, the digital invitation also opens on a computer, and a relative can open the link received by text.

Surprise party
