What a wedding invitation must include

Whatever the style, a complete invitation answers five questions:

The usual order: the hosts, the request line, the couple's names, the date, then the venues. Everything else (dress code, accommodation, gift registry) belongs on a separate page or in the digital invitation.

Traditional wording, when the parents host

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Martin
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bernard
joyfully announce the marriage of their children
Léa and Thomas
and request the pleasure of your company at the ceremony on Saturday, June 12, 2027, at 3 p.m., at St. Mary's Church.

Mrs. Claire Martin

With great joy, the Martin and Bernard families invite you to the wedding of Léa and Thomas on Saturday, June 12, 2027, at Rosewood Manor.

When a parent is widowed, or divorced and remarried, each household gets its own line. Tradition names the bride's family first, but nothing requires it.

Religious wording: Jewish, Muslim, Christian

With the help of Hashem,
Mr. and Mrs. Cohen
Mr. and Mrs. Levy

Funny wording

Thomas has finally found someone who laughs at his jokes. Come celebrate this miracle on June 12, 2027.

This is not a drill. Léa and Thomas really are getting married on June 12, 2027.

Humor works well for the party, less so when the parents are hosting. A good compromise: traditional wording on the card, and a funny line in the schedule.
