A save the date has one job: getting guests to block the date. Here's what it should say, 20 examples to copy, and the right time to send it.

What to write (and nothing more)

• Your names.
• The date, with the day of the week.
• The city or region.
• The words “invitation to follow”.

The exact venue, times and RSVP request come with the invitation. An overloaded save the date loses its impact.
